B&C Speakers is a brand known for its unparalleled audio excellence and high-quality products. As loudspeaker enthusiasts, we are passionate about the outstanding qualities that set B&C Speakers apart, making them the top choice for fellow enthusiasts and industry professionals across the world.
To truly understand what makes B&C speaker components stand out, we need to look at their robust warranty system, weather-proof capabilities, meticulous testing procedures, DIY repair options, adherence to international quality standards, proper storage guidelines, and trusted sources for genuine component parts.
Read on as we look at B&C speaker components and what solidifies their position as an industry leader.
How Does B&C’s Warranty System Work?
The warranty on B&C speaker components stays in force for up to 3 years after the date that the consumer purchased the item.
The original owner and all future owners have an entitlement to protection provided they bought the components from an authorised B&C retailer or distributor. The original dated receipt of the sale is a requirement of the warranty service.
What Kind of Weather Protection Do B&C Speaker Components Come With?
B&C speakers use several different procedures and products to protect their components from moisture. For woofers, they use a water-based glue coating that gets applied to one or both sides of the cone, depending on the model.
After the application has dried out completely, it significantly enhances the woofers’ capability to resist direct contact with water and higher humidity levels.
When the glue gets applied to both sides of the cone it will better protect the speaker enclosure. For example, the rear side of the cone will absorb more of the coating and may then appear less glossy than the front of the cone.
Waterproof vs Water Resistant Explained
Experts often call this coating “WP” when on the front side of the cone, or “TWP” when on both sides of the cone. The transducer industry may refer to these coatings as “waterproof.”
In fact, they are more about weather protection than waterproofing. Although full waterproofing is technically possible, our customers say they need it very rarely. It adds significantly to the cost and still comes with challenges and limitations.
B&C Woofers and Drivers
There are also several types of B&C Woofers where a cone gets infused with a weather-protective additive. This assists with resistance to humidity and direct water exposure but without the glossy surface.
It also keeps the weight of the cone down. That’s critical, particularly in midrange applications. This coating is relatively effective at resisting water, but not as effective as our usual WP or TWP solutions.
On a few models of their high-frequency drivers, B&C speakers are able to provide stainless steel, nano-coated, screens on the driver exit. These help to stop water from getting into the driver provided the water doesn’t get into the exit with force.
B&C does not offer a specific IP rating or other weather protection specs for its products.
What Testing of B&C Products Goes On Before Shipping?
All B&C speakers and B&C speaker components get 100% quality tested before packaging and shipment take place. That’s part of how B&C is able to guarantee its products for 3 years.
All B&C speaker components get electronically tested for rub and buzz problems. B&C’s technicians carry out a string of measurements on each component. This makes sure that their frequency response and electrical impedance fall within recognised tolerance windows.
Every single cone loudspeaker also gets tested at a high-voltage, low-frequency, acoustical sweep to check for vibrations or noises.
Can I Fix B&C Speaker Components Myself?
B&C provides instructions on how to fix its components in the resource section of its website. You’ll find the “Resources” section at the bottom of their home page for videos and tech guides.
Some high-frequency drivers are relatively simple to repair. Woofers, on the other hand, can be a bit trickier. We’d always recommend that you seek professional support for those kinds of procedures to ensure long-term component performance. Carrying out the right repair process and using the correct adhesives are critical.
Does B&C Adhere to International Quality Standards?
The short answer is, “Yes.” B&C is a registered ISO IEC 27001, OHSAS 18001 and ISO 9001 manufacturer.
How Should I Store My B&C Products?
As a rule of thumb, you should store B&C transducer products at room temperature (15-25°C) and in a place with a relative humidity of 40-60 per cent. Provided you stick to these environmental conditions, you can store B&C products safely for many years to come. That’s without affecting transducer performance.
If our products get stored in a place where the temperature is outside of the optimal range, or where the humidity may rise dramatically, in tropical conditions, for example, adhesives, soft parts such as coils and cones, as well as metal parts, may become adversely affected.
Where Can I Get Parts to Repair B&C Speaker Components?
B&C does not make any sales of components directly to the public. Your best bet is to contact the retailer whom you bought the cabinets or components from or the manufacturer of speaker cabinets.
If they are unable to help, you should contact your local B&C distributor, such as Surgesound Australia. It’s worth noting that some proprietary components are only available via the manufacturer of the speaker cabinets themselves.
